ABOUT THE EXHIBIT

The Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum has dreamed up a bold new exhibit:  50% of the Story: Women Expressing Creativity. Our vision alongside project partners Abby Kreuser and Gundy Stevens is to create a gallery FILLED with various forms of women’s creative expression; to produce something truly beautiful when we put women from the past and present in conversation together; to challenge the notion of museums as gatekeepers and tastemakers; and to demonstrate how across time women have always told their stories through art and creativity.

The CSPM is a museum of history and culture where we center people and stories in our exhibits. The 50% gallery will be FILLED with amazing contemporary artists, historic works of art, and artifacts from the CSPM collection. With objects both old and new — we will demonstrate how women have always been creative — even when the doors to formal training and gallery representation were closed to them. And remember, unless we are telling/sharing/collecting the stories of women – we are missing 50% of our community’s rich history.
