**Basketball Coaches Wanted! Monticello Mavericks Delegation

The Mavericks delegation is located 30 miles from the twin cities in the town of Monticello. We currently support approximately 150+ athletes, ages 8+ across 8 sports offerings.  

Our team relies upon its volunteers to provide a supportive, educational social environment that fosters competitiveness while having fun. We strive to provide a community that focuses on physical activity and social development. Our goal is to have fun while staying physically active!  

 

The Mavericks are in need of 2-3 Level 1 (assistant) coaches and at least 1 more Level 2 coach.  Assistant coaches will be required to complete the Level 1 training, while Level 2 (head coaches) will need to complete the Level 1 training and Level 2 basketball training. 

 

Basketball practice will be held every Wednesday from February 21st to June 12th, 6PM - 7:30PM at Eastview Education Center in Monticello.

Regional competition held Saturday, April 20th in Rogers and State competition Saturday, June 22nd and Sunday, June 23rd in Stillwater.

 

All volunteers are required to complete Special Olympics Minnesota's Level 1 Training & a background check, which will be sent to you once you register! Please indicate that you would like to join the Monticello Mavericks on the application. 

 

Ideally, you will be able to help for each session.

 

Coach Roles:

• Must be 16+ years old
• Must complete the Level 1 and/or 2 training and background check
• Must be great with people, respectful, understanding, energetic, able to delegate, and inclusive
• Receives lesson plans for each session
• Help with traditional full court, stations, and guiding athletes through different drills.
• Prep and lead each class using training and lesson plans given by SOMN. Example: scheduling out what each class will look like prior. Day of, leading the class in warm-ups, setting up equipment/activities, leading cool downs.
• Basketball experience not necessary!

 

Extra Information:

Coaches should arrive 15 min prior to start of practice. Please bring a water bottle.
