Description:

Overall Overview: As a Shooting Benchrest Competition Volunteer, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the seamless operation and success of our event. Benchrest shooting requires precision, attention to detail, and a supportive team behind the scenes. Your assistance will contribute to creating a safe, organized, and enjoyable environment for participants and spectators alike.  Please arrive 30 minutes early to your shift to receive instructions and to have any questions answered.  

 

PROCESS TO SIGN UP FOR A VOLUNTEER SHIFT:  First, you will need to determine the day(s) you are available to work, then the time of the day/shifts you would like to work, and then choose the actual opportunity you would like to work.   You may sign up for the same opportunity over several days or you may sign up for different opportunities over several days, and you can sign up for both shifts of the same opportunity on the same day.

 

Positions to be filled are:

 

Score Checker:  

 

Responsibilities: The shooters will score each other's targets, so this position will supervise the scoring process and coaching the scorers on the correct manner in which to score the targets. Once the scorers have completed scoring a target, the Score Checker will then double-check the scoring to ensure it's correct and resolve any challenges to the scores before entering the scores onto the tally sheet and turning the tally sheet into the Statistician to be entered into the system.  The Score Checker will have the final word on any score challenges.  The position will be located indoors in the range's climate controlled classroom.  Volunteers will receive a T-shirt that should be worn during your volunteer shift.  Volunteers will receive a free lunch, and water/apples/oranges will also be available.

Requirements: Involves close and detailed evaluation of targets so attention to detail and good people skills will be essential.

 

Target Crew:

 

Responsibilities:  Staple new targets onto cardboard backers, post targets on the target stands at the start of each relay, retrieve completed targets and deliver them to the scoring facility, and post new targets before the next relay. Verifies that targets are properly labeled and installed on the assigned target stand. They receive clearance to go down range from the Range Officer to ensure their safety.  The position will be located outdoors at the Redcliff's Shooting Park. No heavy lifting required. Volunteers will receive a T-shirt that should be worn during your volunteer shift.  Volunteers will receive a free lunch, and water/apples/oranges will also be available.

Requirements: Ability to walk on uneven/gravel surfaces. 

 

Check-in/Registrars:

 

Responsibilities:  Assist the athletes with the check-in process at the range including the completion of registration forms and the assignment of benches and relays.  Position will be located outdoors at the Redcliff's Shooting Park. No heavy lifting required. Volunteers will receive a T-shirt that should be worn during your volunteer shift.  Volunteers will receive a free lunch, and water/apples/oranges will also be available.

Requirements:  Attention to detail, good customer service skills, and ability to multi-task.

 

Chief Range Safety Officer/Match Director:  

 

Responsibilities:  The Chief Range Safety Officer (CRSO) is responsible to keep the match running smoothly and on time and insuring the match is conducted in a safe manner. This position is also responsible for signaling the Target Crew when it is safe to go downrange for a target change. The CRSO will call competitors to the bench line sufficiently in advance of giving the commence fire command in order to allow rests and other equipment to be set and adjusted. Before the first match of the day, and on each relay, the CRSO will explain the procedure that is in use at the Range to start and stop a match, including the procedures to be followed in case of an emergency cease-fire.  This will make the final and binding decision concerning any rule challenges or rule changes.  Position will be located outdoors at the Red Cliffs Rifle and Pistol Range. No heavy lifting required. Volunteers will receive a T-shirt that should be worn during your volunteer shift.  Volunteers will receive a free lunch, and water/apples/oranges will also be available. 

Requirements:  Volunteer must possess a current Certified Range Safety Officer certificate, good people skills, and conflict resolution management skills.

 

Range Safety Officer: 

 

Responsibilities:  Assists the Chief Range Safety Officer/Match Director with monitoring safety on the range during the competition, conducting safety checks when the range goes cold and during changes in relays, and monitoring all aspects of the competition to ensure that it's conducted fairly, safely, and with no bias.  Position will be located outdoors at the Redcliff's Shooting Park. No heavy lifting required. Volunteers will receive a T-shirt that should be worn during your volunteer shift.  Volunteers will receive a free lunch, and water/apples/oranges will also be available.

Requirements:  Volunteer must possess a current Certified Range Safety Officer certificate.

 

First Aid:  

 

Responsibilities:  Be available while there is active shooting being conducted on the range to respond to any kind of medical emergency or situation. Position will be located outdoors at the Redcliff's Shooting Park. No heavy lifting required. Volunteers will receive a T-shirt that should be worn during your volunteer shift.  Volunteers will receive a free lunch, and water/apples/oranges will also be available.

Requirements: Preferable to have certifications in 1st Aid, CPR, AED, and Stop the Bleeding.

 

Range Preparation:

 

Responsibilities:  Assist with setting up the range for rifle check-in the day before the actual competition begins, set up target stands, and any other activities to prepare the range for the competition. Position will be located outdoors at the Redcliff's Shooting Park. No heavy lifting required. Volunteers will receive a T-shirt that should be worn during your volunteer shift.  Volunteers will receive a free lunch, and water/apples/oranges will also be available. 

Requirements:  Willingness to follow orders and ask questions when not sure of job requirements.

 

Sign-in Coordinator:

 

Responsibilities:  Ensures that everyone coming onto range property completes the Washington County Liability Waiver.  Will set at a table under a shade canopy at the main entrance to the range, welcome everyone, and ask them to complete the form.  Once the form has been completed, you will stamp their hand to allow access to the range for the rest of the day.  Position will be located outdoors at the Redcliff's Shooting Park. No heavy lifting required. Volunteers will receive a T-shirt that should be worn during your volunteer shift.  Volunteers will receive a free lunch, and water/apples/oranges will also be available. 

Requirements:  Volunteer will be an ambassador for the range and the Huntsman World Senior Games so good people skills and the ability to smile and carry on a conversation will be an asset.

 

Misc. Range Support:

 

Description: To assist the Benchrest Director and any other range/match personnel with whatever assistance is necessary to ensure the match proceeds seamlessly.  Position will be located outdoors at the Redcliff's Shooting Park. No heavy lifting required. Volunteers will receive a T-shirt that should be worn during your volunteer shift.  Volunteers will receive a free lunch, and water/apples/oranges will also be available.  Requirements:  Willingness to follow directions to accomplish miscellaneous tasks as needed.

 

Weight and trigger checker:

 

Description: Assist with the weigh-in process of the rifles to determine the class of competition the rifle will be allowed to shoot in based on overall weight and for certain shooting categories to also conduct a trigger pull check.  All necessary equipment will be supplied by the range.  Position will be located outdoors at the Redcliff's Shooting Park. No heavy lifting required. Volunteers will receive a T-shirt that should be worn during your volunteer shift.  Volunteers will receive a free lunch, and water/apples/oranges will also be available.

Requirements: Ability to use a digital scale to weigh the rifle and to use a trigger weight scale to determine the trigger pull weight.  Good people skills and ability to communicate with the shooters.
