Known as the Paganini of the double bass, Bottesini wrote his Concerto No. 2 as a take on fiery Italian opera, performed here by Omaha Symphony Principal Bass Nate Olson. Beethoven’s penultimate Symphony No. 8 runs the gamut between ferocious and rambunctious, reveling in goodwill, humor, and the sheer force of a thunderous ensemble. |
