The Creative Movement is a 4-week series program that participants will stretch, strengthen and find the flow with our Certified Yoga Teacher and Yoga Therapist, while enjoy activating their body in a fund and inclusive space. Volunteer will support program by helping with setup, welcoming clients, tracking attendance, encouraging, and ensuring the safe participation of all clients and take down.
Tasks/Responsibilities:
- Setup/take down program space (reassembly of chairs) before participants arrive and after completion of program.
- Welcome and greet participants to the program.
- Participate in movement activity/demonstrate movements.
- Direct participants to washroom and water breaks as needed.
- Observe participants to ensure safety and encourage participation.
- Call emergency contact if participant needs assistance.
- Take attendance at each session and share post-program feedback with the staff supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Enjoy working with others, comfortable initiating conversation and including others.
- Patient, friendly and outgoing; comfortable in a non-competitive, inclusive environment.
- Experience working or communicating with people living with dementia will be an asset.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Be physically able to participate in the program.
Time Commitment & Location:
- Thursdays – August 1st - 22nd (4-week series)
- From 1:00pm – 3:00pm (program is from 1:30pm – 2:30pm, extra time allow for setup and wrap-up)
- St. Andrew’s United Church (117 Bloor St E, Toronto, ON M4W 1A9)
- Face masks will be provided and encouraged to be worn throughout the duration of the program.
Orientation/Training:
- Orientation to the Alzheimer Society of Toronto
- 3 hours online modules: Dementia 101, 102 and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act training.
- Specific training to the position will be provided by the Active Living Programs Coordinator.
Screening:
All applicants will be required to submit a volunteer application, attend an interview and provide two references to be contacted by the Volunteer Department. Applicants must also agree to a Vulnerable Sector Check.
Supervision:
This role will be supervised by the staff supervisor and the Active Living Programs Coordinator.
