Opportunity Name:
Stratton Open Space Invasive Weeds Project - July 15 2024

Description:

Join Friends of Stratton Open Space to help remove invasive trees: Russian olive, Siberian elm, and possibly others.  Aggressive, nonnative plants crowd out native vegetation and reduce wildlife habitat.  Only a few Russian olives have been found in Stratton, so we want to remove them before they spread.  Stratton has a fair number of Siberian elms, so we hope to slow their spread.  Volunteers will cut small trees with hand saws and Parks staff will spray the cut ends with herbicide.  We might also address other needs in the area.

Please wear long pants and close-toed shoes.  Bring gloves, water, snacks, sun protection, and clothing layers for the weather.

***Participants must be 13 or older and must have a parent/guardian signature when registering. Minors must be accompanied by an adult***
