What can I expect when I volunteer?

Expect to be working with an experienced land steward who has an intimate knowledge of a particular natural community. Tasks range from native seed collection & cleaning to invasive species management and brush removal.
Expect to learn about many new species of flora and fauna, state-of-the-art techniques in conservation and restoration, and the effects of fire on the landscape.
Expect lively camaraderie with folks who are intensely interested in the natural world and dedicated to its preservation.
Expect beautiful scenery, fresh air and working outside with your hands.
Be sure to wear long pants and sturdy boots. All work occurs off trail over rough terrain.

Special note: If you have safety glasses, please bring them. If not, we will supply them for you. Please bring work gloves! Any time you work around a burning brush pile, embers are flying and they can cause small burn holes in your jacket/coat. So wearing your $300 Patagonia parka or a synthetic coat is not advised. Natural fibers and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty are best!
