Opportunity Details | SNR Ecological Restoration Workday 6.18.24

Opportunity Name:
SNR Ecological Restoration Workday 6.18.24

Description:

Vary seasonally and include collection and cleaning of native seeds, cutting and treating invasive brush & control of herbaceous invasive species.

What can I expect when I volunteer?

  • Expect to be working with an experienced land steward who has an intimate knowledge of a particular natural community. Tasks range from native seed collection & cleaning to invasive species management and brush removal.
  • Expect to learn about many new species of flora and fauna, state-of-the-art techniques in conservation and restoration, and the effects of fire on the landscape.
  • Expect lively camaraderie with folks who are intensely interested in the natural world and dedicated to its preservation.
  • Expect beautiful scenery, fresh air and working outside with your hands.
  • Be sure to wear long pants and sturdy boots. All work occurs off trail over rough terrain.

Special note:  If you have safety glasses, please bring them.  If not, we will supply them for you.  Please bring work gloves!  Any time you work around a burning brush pile, embers are flying and they can cause small burn holes in your jacket/coat.  So wearing your $300 Patagonia parka or a synthetic coat is not advised.  Natural fibers and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty are best!
